All-out Ogleweekend, google map/flickr love, and hill rolling

I forgot to mention that my five year undergrad reunion/alumni weekend was a few weeks ago. I didn't go. Obvs. They didn't send invites out til way late, plus I had work to do, and was planning another Atlanta trip already.

The all-out Ogleweekend starts today, Thursday, right here!, as there's a Nashville-area alumni get together at the Hilton downtown tonight.

Then Friday morning I'm off to Atlanta, for the wedding of an undergrad friend (and now, famous author!) which is pretty exciting, and plus I'll get to catch up with other wedding guests, many of whom I went to school with, too. Plans also include dim-sum with non-wedding-related ATL peeps, and perhaps dropping in on my undergrad advisor, who is retiring this year.

Speaking about Ogle-everything (by the way, this prefix is pronounced OH-gull, in case you are unfamiliar with my undergraduate institution/the founder of the state of Georgia)...

So, I've been playing a bit with google maps. And it kicks ass. Clean design, scrolls smoothly, and basically I love maps. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I have a weak sense of direction, but I could just stare and stare at 'em. Just for the hell of it.

So yeah, combine google maps with satellite images and man I'm sucked in. I've done high-zoom searches of everywhere I've lived, identifying landmarks, etc. (it's like, three/four places tops. don't be impressed.) So fun!

Then on top of THAT, I recently started playing around with Flickr. Only got around to uploading a few random images thus far. (Comments welcome there, as well. Since this site here's so user-participatory.)

This Flickr/google map usage, of course, resulted in a googlemap / memorymap thingee of my undergrad campus ... thus bringing it all back to what I began blabbing on here to begin with. Oglestuffs.

see?

On a completely unrelated note: Do not forget that today, April 14th, is Unofficial Hill-Rolling Day. Go roll down a big grassy hill where ever you are, just like you did as a kid. I'm going to try to make it out for rolling festivities later, if I can get my packin' done in time.

That last paragraph was really about rolling down hills. That's not some sort of hidden drug-reference thing.

I love it. I must say I have never viewed OU from this angle.
Go Petrels!

this has brightened my entire day. funny how many of our blurbs for these places would be the same. Shouldn't newspaper office say "where Heidi and i slept for all of the 1998-99 academic year, when not pulling an all-niter at Waffle House"?

Yay! You'll be here tomorrow!
